And so, with Frost/Nixon and The Wrestler, the last of the big oscar nominated films have dropped. Also take note of Toronto Stories - I've got no idea if it's any good or not, but I'm still waiting for a filmmaker to turn this world-class city into a world-class film setting like New York or Los Angeles. Maybe this isn't the film to do it, but it can be a lot of fun to watch a professional film set in your back yard.

New Releases - April 14, 2009
Oh, look. It's The Reader. I suppose we all have to watch it now. I plan to check out The Spirit tonight, it got critically panned but I could see myself really enjoying it. The word on Cassandra's Dream is that it's Woody Allen's worst flick in years, but if you're a fan you'll probably check it out anyway, but on the upside this week Dave pointed out the cover art to Splinter is pretty dang cool.

The Deal
Dark Matter

Also, note that The Reader is coming out on Blu-ray closer to the end of the month.

Music in the store
If you're roaming the aisles during a shift that I'm supervising (usually Friday and Saturday evenings) you'll probably hear [Radio Paradise] coming out of our sound system. It's a volunteer and donation-based radio station out of California, and I really like the variety of music they play, and how the songs lead into one another; A little Nick Cave, a little Band of Horses, just enough Beatles, and some Zero 7 every once in a while. I used to go to Last.FM, a form of user-customizeable automated internet radio similar to Pandora.com, but since they started charging listeners outside the U.S. a minor mandatory subscription fee, I've had to look elsewhere. A Jumbo customer turned me on to R.P. and I haven't looked back, although it's sometimes too mellow for Dave. I just thought I'd give them a plug, so check them out if you're interested. And if anyone out there has any other internet radio suggestions, leave a comment and let us know!

New Releases - April 7th, 2009
Here are this week's releases. I can't honestly recommend The Day the Earth Stood Still, but that certainly hasn't hampered its popularity so far. I can honestly recommend Doubt though, watch it if for no other reason to see Viola Davis fully earn an Oscar nomination with a five minute scene. Is that some kind of record?
